Boston Marathon Post-Race Party

After the race I headed to the Hyland’s Powered Team after party. Everyone that has worked on putting the team together, documenting the journey, running, supporting, cheering, planning and more came together to celebrate at the U club. It’s super close to the finish line so I grabbed my post-race goodie bag and a mylar blanket and walked there.

(I finished in 3:58:10 – recap with notes coming soon.)

They set it up so when you walk in the front desk asks who you are (it’s a private club so you have to do this anyway) but that person gives the party a head’s up you’re coming and when you walk into the room the DJ announces you and everyone cheers for you super loud!! It was startling and kinda funny because I wasn’t ready for that but I danced around because it was such a warm welcome.

I’m usually not hungry right after a marathon but I was 100% ready to eat after the race.

I think this is because the Boston Marathon starts fairly late (my start time was 10:50am) it was a lot later in the day than I usually finish a race. This weekend someone asked me what I eat after a marathon and I said I usually decide while running. During the race I was dreaming of french fries. I wanted a huge order of fresh french fries.

So I called ahead and told the Hyland’s Team to have it ready for me.

Not really! Oh no. I would not do that.

But you don’t understand how happy I was when I got to the post-race party and saw both sweet potato fries and regular french fries!!! This is exactly what I wanted/needed. Since I had just been running / eating french fries in my head for about 4 hours I was so excited to see this massive pan of fresh fries that I think I screamed, “I just want french fries! This is exactly what I wanted!!!”

They also had sliders – beef, turkey, veggie sliders AND grilled cheese with roast. Plus salad, fruit and an epic dessert table.

Champagne is for celebrating and I was definitely celebrating!! Everything about the Hyland’s team and training for the Boston Marathon and crossing the finish line was an honor.

Huge huge thank you to the Hyland’s team and all the runners / new friends from the team.

These beautiful yellow daffodils were all around the city. There were a lot Boston Strong signs and messages up during marathon weekend. I loved seeing these and a special reminder of what happened at the race in 2013. I said a lot of little prayers over the weekend. The flowers gave me an extra nudge to be thankful and pray for everyone to be safe.

Speaking of that… I tried to go to church on Easter Sunday (the day before the race) but it was so packed they stopped letting people in! I randomly happened to walk up to the back entrance and a guy who goes to this church regularly (I assume) said he was going to go in a different way. I followed him through a back door, down to the basement and back up to the church level. Lil sneaker! But I needed it.

There is a big post-race party that all the runners can attend. Your guests can buy a ticket too. I skipped it but am curious about it because the entire race has such a happy celebratory vibe – even out of a party situation.

One of my Hyland’s teammates, Nancy has a friend who makes jewelry. Marlene (her friend and jewelry maker) sent all of us these necklaces with inspirational charms before the race. Look at the charm with all our pictures on it! This is super sweet. You can check out her jewelry at Mar Mar 60.

In other weekend fun…

I saw Tina from Carrots N Cake and her famous pug Murphie!! Tina is one of my best friends even though she lives on the other side of the country.  Chandra and I had dinner and wine and fun with her and the family Saturday night.
